English Language Challenges This is my last blog, and I want to start writing about English as a language. In my opinion, it is very important to learn English, since this language has become the universal language, and it definitely opens many doors in the professional field. In addition, it is very useful to communicate with people who do not speak our native language, especially if I have the desire to travel around the world. Personally, I have had a hard time with English because I didn't have a good foundation in school. For this reason, English has always been complicated for me. However, I am eager to learn it and dedicate the time it deserves. Before English classes started this year, I was studying the language through YouTube, with video classes that teach from the most basic to the most complex. It also has an application that makes learning English even more practical and dynamic. On the other hand, my experience learning English at university has not been good. St

CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME I am studying psychology at the University of Chile because I really liked its curriculum. However, the first semester I did not like all the subjects. One of the subjects that I considered less important for the career was " Historia Social de Chile " (Social History of Chile). I consider that this subject should be an elective. In short, it is an interesting but dispensable subject for psychology. Another subject that I would remove from my curriculum would be the first semester cross-disciplinary course. That course was intended to teach essay writing, and the truth is that I ended up learning on my own. It was a very poorly organized course and I hope not to live again such a bad experience as the one I had with that subject. Regarding the academic load, I believe it is adequate to internalize the contents. I can't say much about the faculty facilities, as I have been there only once. However, I wish it had a large space and there were

Postgraduate Studies Hello, in this blog I will talk about the postgraduate study I want to do. Currently, I am a psychology student, and after finishing my career I want to obtain a diploma in Legal Psychology and specialize in Forensic Psychological Evaluation. I am interested in this area because I want to delve into the practice of expert psychological evaluation, involved in judicial processes in the context of the current Chilean justice system. In Criminal Justice, forensic psychologists collaborate in evaluating the mental competence of a defendant, others help preparing victims of a crime to testify or resume their normal activities. They also collaborate in the criminal investigation helping to define the profile of a criminal. I would like to study subjects related to the psychological interpretation of criminal evidence and criminal profiles. For this, I would like to study in Chile, at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC). This course lasts for 1 year,

My Future Job  Hello again! On this opportunity I want to talk to you about the kind of job I would like to have, since I am studying psychology and well… when I become a psychologist, I want to do many things. After finishing my career, I want to obtain a diploma in Legal Psychology and specialize in Forensic Psychological Evaluation. I am interested in this area because I want to delve into the practice of expert psychological evaluation, involved in judicial processes in the context of the current Chilean justice system. I imagine myself working at PDI as a forensic psychologist inside an office, interviewing suspected criminals, victims, or family members. I could also be participating in court. I have many ideas of the future. I could be a forensic psychologist or a clinical psychologist… I’m interested in doing research and I might want to have my private consultation. I could do talks around the world about my research and collaborate with other researchers. in short, workin

What's like to study psychology? Hello again! In this post I’ll talk a little about my career. I’m a second year student of psychology at the University of Chile. I chose this career for various reasons. However, I have to say that when I was a little kid, I wanted to be a lab scientist. Then I became interested in psychology. I also wanted to be a teacher or a biologist. Finally, I decided on psychology because I think I can mix all those things, that is to say, I could teach in a university and do research work with experts from scientific areas. My experience at the university until now has been regular, because of the pandemic and the online classes. It has  advantages and disadvantages, since my house is very far from the university, and at least I will not have to commute for hours every day. Obviously, because of the online classes I have missed learning many things, however, I’m motivated, and I hope to learn more about the human mind. After finishing my career, I’d like

Mental health Problems related to a lockdown Since Covid-19 appeared, our life changed. The virus has affected us in one way or another. Many people have lost their beloved, also their jobs, tranquility and also freedom. The pandemic has had unthinkable consequences that are still difficult to measure, and within this terrible crisis, the quarantine has transformed the way we all live. Personally, the confinement has been something very complex for me, since I am in university, and having to do practically everything inside my house, is exhausting. Having a routine locked in a confined space is stressful and affects our mental health, as if our own home were a jail. To cope with confinement, I simply forget about the problems outside. College itself creates stress when you have too much to study, and sometimes the two come together like a bomb to the head. When this nightmare is over, I’ll go visit my friends and my family, it is what I love the most. I’ll also go out for a walk

My Best Holiday Ever The best holiday I've ever had in my life was when I was 10 years old. I remember that I and my father went to my paternal grandmother's home, located in “Monte Águila”, a small town in the Biobío region. We stayed there for two weeks and we visited many places. When we arrived, I insisted a lot to my father to go to a river, and a few days later we went to the “Salto el Laja” with him, an uncle and a cousin. That day was great, we had a lot of fun bathing in the river. Days later we went to an uncle´s place who had many horses and I learned to ride one. We also went for a walk to the forest and visited an aunt who lived there, although we almost got lost :( Finally, when it was the last day of being there, my grandma gave me a box with beans and sausages, because my favorite dish is “porotos con rienda”. She also gave me some money :) I remember that vacation a lot, because I really enjoyed it, it was almost like a dream! That's all.
